January Updates

Welcome to the New Year. Many exciting changes and events will happen during this semester. Our technology resources are being upgraded weekly. All the 11 year old desktops throughout the building have been removed. We added over 230 new laptops and chrome books for student usage. The new devices were used as we completed our mid-year Science and Social Studies tests online. The older devices were unable to support the online testing software. We invite parents/guardians to stop by to see how different our Media Center and Computer Labs look with the new equipment.

East Middle was selected as the only middle school in the district for a new pilot program. Over the next three years our staff will be trained to integrate technology more effectively and extensively into their instruction. Our websites will change to interactive Haiku (Google product) sites for staff, students and parents. This is scheduled to begin next year. Our goal over the next 2 years is to use different funding sources so that all students will have access to a mobile device in all classes.

Please come out to support our basketball teams this year. Our first game is scheduled for Thursday, January 20 (weather dependent). Please note that the schedule contained in the link has changed to all boys teams will play at the same location and follow the original 8th grade schedule. Girls will play at the opposite site. Please check our school webpage to locate the schedules.

October Updates

As we begin October and look back we could ask, "Where did September go so quickly?" It seems like only a couple of weeks ago that students were beginning the school year and we had our Labor Day break. Thanks to all the parents/guardians for such a smooth opening of the school year. East Middle's success in educating our students is connected to your overall support.

New Sign In

Beginning Monday, October 6 we will begin using Ident-A-Kid software for our sign ins. This includes students, parents and volunteers. Many of our parents are familiar with the process from surrounding elementary and high schools. If you need assistance please as our office staff.

Please check our webpage for volunteer information.
Assist your child(ren) in becoming lifelong readers. Our book fair is October 12-16. I encourage every parent/guardian if possible to buy their student at least one book. If you are able we ask that you consider joining me in sponsoring a child who otherwise might not be able to get a book from the book fair.

Each year we conduct different safety drills. Most parents are familiar with the monthly fire drill and annual tornado drill. Please know that we also conduct regular lock down and intruder drills. August 28

Good afternoon parents and guardians. I will attempt this year to send a weekly update of the events and happenings at East Middle. The year has started smoothly. We are continually registering new students, adjusting schedules of enrolled students and resolving transportation requests. I would like to thank everyone for their patience as we make the needed changes.
One of the major changes at East Middle this year is the cost of breakfast and lunch. ALL students may eat a regular breakfast and lunch FREE. Students are able to purchase extra items a la carte. Parents are not required to complete any paperwork for students to receive their breakfast and lunch free. Our goal is that every student would eat a healthy breakfast and lunch.
If your son or daughter desires to participate in athletics this year they will need to receive a physical. This link will direct you to the Athletic participation form. http://wsfcs.k12.nc.us/Page/102
All of our schedules and tryout information is available on the school's web page under Athletics. http://wsfcs.k12.nc.us/Page/12139
